Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach: "Draft of a Historical Architecture"

In 1721 Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach published the first illustrated history of global architecture. The work – Entwurff Einer Historischen Architectur (Draft of a Historical Architecture) – brought Fischer (1656–1723) renown across Europe. Ranging from the monuments of the ancient world to Turkish, Arabic, Persian, and Chinese architecture, it also included Fischers´s own buildings. Thus, they became models for an architecture that followed classical tradition while also creating something wholly new.
