"Flourishing Vienna"

Vienna as baroque city—the image tied to this notion rests mainly on the series of engravings “Wahrhaffte und genaue Abbildung…” (Genuine and precise illustration) published by the Augsburg printmaker Andreas Pfeffel in four installments beginning in 1724. For the preliminary drawings, Pfeffel commissioned Salomon Kleiner, likewise from Augsburg. For the publication, various engravers realized Kleiner’s altogether 132 “prospects” of significant Viennese buildings in copperplate engravings.
