Emergency Money
In exceptional situations, such as wars, it can occur that states are no longer able to provide the population with sufficient cash—perhaps because metal is scarce due to the war, or because there aren’t enough employees. In order to maintain supplies and the economy, replacement money that is valid only temporarily (and in a particular location) is quickly and inexpensively produced. In most cases, this entails coins of nominal value for daily necessities. When the emergency is over, such money should be converted to “hard” currency again.
