Building the city
Since the nineteenth century, structures destined for demolition have been increasingly documented in photos. Also newly erected buildings and the building activity itself have been captured: these images are fascinating no least due to their rendering of no longer available viewing axes over the building sites and the depiction of the actual labor by people and machines—from the construction of the Rotunde to that of the Seestadt in Aspern.
